Under the direction of the Phlebotomy Supervisor or Lead Phlebotomist/Phlebotomist III performs accurate and skilled blood collection procedures and assist both MDs and RNs with collections as indicated by staff physician orders and section standards. Responsible for policies and procedures as they relate to communication and collection of blood samples. Responsible for adherence and enforcement of all hospital and Pathology policies, to include those initiated to prevent the accidental and unnecessary exposure of self, patient, or other employees to blood born pathogens and safety hazards. Understands the physiological and psychological differences created by age, sex, and abilities and applies them to the pre -analytic, analytic, and post-analytic components of laboratory testing. Prioritizes and organizes daily workload under the guidance of Lead Phlebotomist/Phlebotomist III. Performs routine maintenance of phlebotomy areas (to include patient rooms).
Phlebotomist II - High school diploma or GED required. Phlebotomy experience, hospital experience, medical experience or college coursework in medical/sciences preferred. Medical terminology preferred.
